Carbon Project Joins ESRI’s Business Partner Program

BOSTON, MA, January 26, 2006 - The Carbon Project, the world leader in Open-Geospatial .NET technology, announces that it has joined ESRI's Business Partner Program. The Carbon Project will develop interoperability extensions for ESRI’s ArcGIS software to support the rapidly expanding GeoWeb of open-geospatial services that describe our planet.

The Carbon Project has developed an interoperability extension platform for ESRI’s ArcGIS, CarbonArc, to enable seamless access and use of Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) services in ArcGIS. The first module of CarbonArc, CarbonArc Lite, will be an extension product complete with intuitive tools for accessing and using any OGC Web Map Service (WMS) or Web Feature Service (WFS) data source as an integral part of geographic information systems (GIS). In addition, CarbonArc Lite allows the use and styling of complex Geography Markup Language (GML) in ArcGIS while maintaining its native structure, properties and attributes with no loss of information. CarbonArc Lite was developed using CarbonTools and The Carbon Project’s unique Source-Handler-Data architecture. The Carbon Project’s flagship products, CarbonTools Lite and CarbonTools PRO, are based on the Microsoft .NET Framework and provide powerful and extensible APIs for bringing location-based information into .NET.

The ESRI Business Partner Program is a network of more than 1,700 domestic and international developers, consultants, data partners, and value-added resellers who, utilizing ESRI technology, provide solutions to meet the geographic information system (GIS) needs of every industry. Working together, ESRI and its business partners solve business problems with new software applications, data, and value-added services. "Integrating The Carbon Project's Open-Geospatial .NET technology with the most powerful desktop GIS available will benefit customers worldwide. CarbonArc Lite is the first module of the CarbonArc interoperability extension platform for ArcGIS and I think it will really help ESRI users leverage their investment in GIS and rapidly transform to an online GeoWeb of open-geospatial services that describe our planet. We're very excited by the potential," said Jeff Harrison, President and CEO of The Carbon Project.
