Carbon Project Releases Gaia 3 Source Code with CarbonTools PRO

BURLINGTON, MA, November 9, 2006 – The Carbon Project, the world leader in geosocial networking, announced today that it has included the source code for its powerful Gaia 3 viewer as part of the new CarbonTools PRO toolkit, enabling software developers to easily create innovative geosocial solutions.

Developers can get the Gaia 3 source code with CarbonTools PRO – a robust and extensible new software development toolkit that enhances the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to support advanced location content handling and sharing.

Gaia 3 is a powerful new platform for accessing, visualizing and sharing raster and feature-based location content from numerous sources and formats. To preview Gaia 3, please visit http://thecarbonproject.com/gaia.php.

Gaia 3 runs on Microsoft Windows and can seamlessly use a vast array of location content and services – including services from Microsoft Virtual Earth, Yahoo! Maps, OSGeo MapGuide Open-Source, Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) WMS, WFS, WCS and file formats such as Google Earth KML/KMZ, Geography Markup Language (GML), ESRI Shapefiles, Autodesk and MapInfo formats and more. Gaia 3 also supports geospatial-notes with digital pictures and custom map symbols that can be embedded in the content.

"Our licensing model for Gaia 3 bridges the gap between proprietary software and open source software approaches, providing a powerful blend of source code access and professional support," said Jeff Harrison, President and CEO of The Carbon Project. "Including the source code for Gaia 3 as part of CarbonTools PRO means developers can quickly create innovative geosocial solutions, and our licensing model means solutions based on the source code provided with CarbonTools PRO can be distributed with no limitations."
